Epoxy Coatings in Los Angeles, CA

Hard wearing epoxy floor systems for garages, mechanical rooms and back of house areas over prepared concrete.

Epoxy only bonds well to concrete that has been mechanically opened up, so the job starts with grinding or shot blasting the slab to remove laitance and expose the pores the epoxy needs to grip. Cracks and spalls get patched, the slab gets tested for moisture, then primer, a base coat, an optional decorative flake or quartz broadcast, and a chemical resistant topcoat that seals it all in.

Most epoxy failures trace back to skipped prep. Epoxy applied over concrete that was not properly profiled peels off in sheets, sometimes within months. Moisture coming up through the slab from below, which is common in Los Angeles slab on grade construction, causes bubbling and a white haze under the coating even when the surface looked dry at the time of installation. Skipping crack repair means the crack telegraphs straight through the new floor and reopens under load.

For a garage or a mechanical room the floor needs to handle daily vehicle traffic, dropped tools, oil and chemicals, and still clean down easily. That is the whole point of the system, a surface that does not stain, does not wear through in tire paths, and does not need to be redone every couple of years because the prep was skipped the first time.

How it runs

Grind and profile

The slab surface is mechanically ground to open the pores and give the epoxy something to bond to.

Repair substrate

Cracks and spalled areas are patched so they do not telegraph through the finished floor.

Test moisture

The slab is tested to check for vapor drive coming up from below, which affects how the system is applied.

Prime

A primer coat locks the profile and gives the base coat something consistent to bond to.

Base coat

The main epoxy layer is applied, with flake or quartz broadcast into it if that finish is chosen.

Topcoat and cure

A protective topcoat seals the floor and needs to cure fully before heavy traffic returns.
